Nightmare Scenario [Oct. 14th, 2004|02:06 am]
[Current Mood |terrified...]

I've been playing with various election simulators lately, trying to figure out which swing states Kerry has to get to win (they're Oregon, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Iowa, by the way). I then went to bed and was awoken in my sleep by a very disturbing realization, a scenario I had completely forgotten about.

If the electoral college results are as follows:
Kerry: WA, CA, CA, AZ, MN, IA, IL, MI, OH, PA, NY, ME, VE, MA, NH, RI, CT, NJ, DE, DC, HI

and Bush:
AK, NV, ID, MT, WY, CO, NM, TX, OK, KE, NB, SD, ND, MO, AR, LA, MS, WI, IN, KY, TN, AL, GA, FL, WV, SD, MD, NC, SC, VA

Then the electoral college will be freakin' TIED(!!!) at 269 each. THAT would mean the election would be immediately sent to the House (227 R, 205 D, 1 I, 2 vacancies) where Hastert and his boys would make quick work of it. Now, some of us history geeks would think it was pretty fucking righteous to have something like this happen again, but I'm not so sure the country would be kean on going through another election debacle.

In other words, watch the tube on election night -- if the ec votes are closing in at 269 each, bolt your doors and head to the basement!

[Current Music |The Zombies - Odyssey and Oracle]

1. The other day I overheard someone say "He was the stupidest poet ever."

2. The next time one of these assholes comes into my bookshop and insinuates that I'm part of a Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy because we don't have that disgusting (and may I add already debunked) hit-piece on Kerry (Unfit for Command) yet I'm going to shoot them in the head and charge their family for the bullet.
Fucking Ingram doesn't even have it yet - WE don't have it yet.
And no, it's not on the New York Times Bestseller list (although it will be). The NYT list is 2 FUCKING WEEKS OLD!
And no, no matter what you say you can't "jist order it on dat Amazone and git it tommarah'." Amazon says "Usually ships within 5 to 7 weeks"....does that sound like tommorrow???!!! Does that even sound like they have the fucking book yet?
GAAAAHHHH!!!

3. Someone smashed the window of my van the other night. Good job. You broke it good.

A reminder... [Aug. 4th, 2004|12:23 am]
[Current Mood | pensive]
[Current Music |Texaco Judo - Racecar Backwards]

Hans' viewing was incredible. The line stretched out to the street. Young people typically have larger funerals because more of their friends are alive to attend, but this was something more. He touched so many peoples' lives with his talent and his humor that the funeral home was bursting with people that loved him.

Whoever put the viewing together did a wonderful job. Things that he loved were scattered throughout the funeral home, things like his Spider-man costume and a huge collage of pictures of him and his friends, almost every one showing him goofing around in some manner. The hardest part wasn't even seeing him in the casket, but seeing his drum kit, all set up in the corner. It looked like a pet waiting for it's master to return. I've never seen an instrument look so lonesome.

It was almost like a show, circa 1998. I saw people I had not seen in years, although we all wished it had been under different circumstances. Every greeting was a hug, if you couldn't remember someone's name it didn't matter; no one was in ego mode, and if you had to cry, you cried without shame and someone wrapped their arms around you. It's hard to face the fact that these people are so scattered that we probably won't get together again until another friend passes. I wonder what Hans would consider the bigger tragedy, that we lost one of our own, or that we forgot how many of us we still had.

Good news for a change... [Aug. 3rd, 2004|12:23 am]
[Current Mood | excited]
[Current Music |Rare Earth - "Born to Wander"]

Jason is moving to PA! He's got a residency at Dickinson in Carlisle. I'll be living in the same state as my twin brother for the first time in a decade! I'm moving him in next weekend, and I'm pretty excited. This should be a good time.
